Generocksity has 8 Education Goals that align with the needs of our cities. Each cause has a variety of charities, non-profits, courses that students across our eight chapters can take, as well as clubs and initiatives. Find a way to give back to a cause you are passionate about or learn more about an issue in our society.

Generocksity began operating with the focus of hosting events in order to make philanthropy more accessible to young adults. Since 2013, the organization has adapted and transformed in order to meet the needs of our demographic. We found that young adults not only wanted to give back through monetary means, but also wanted to volunteer and be educated on different philanthropic issues. Therefore, in 2015 Generocksity introduced our Education branch which included hosting a variety of workshops to educate students. In 2016, we introduced our Volunteer branch which gives students the opportunity to volunteer at different organizations throughout their city.
After a few successful workshops, we realized we weren’t reaching that many individuals in relation to our student body and wondered what we could do to educate more people on ways that they could give back.
In 2015, more than 190 world leaders committed to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to help us all end extreme poverty, fight inequality & injustice, and fix climate change. We were inspired by this and have decided to realign our Education branch with these SDGs. Instead of using the 17 goals, we have created 8 new Education Goals that correspond with the current needs of our respective cities, as well as what our demographic is passionate about giving back to. The 8 goals include Animal Welfare, Child Development, Community Enhancement, Education, Environmental Sustainability, Health, Mental Health, and Poverty Alleviation.
Beginning March 6, 2017 we are overhauling our website and creating a new philanthropic database for our Vancouver branch which will contain charities, non-profits, social enterprises, clubs and initiatives at UBC, and university courses all of which align with our new 8 Education Goals. We envision this as being the philanthropic one-stop shop for UBC students and alike. With our database, we hope to provide our users with multiple ways of giving back including monetary, through volunteering, campus and city-wide involvement, as well as suggesting courses offered at UBC that will educate students on these topics.
As well as creating this educational database, we have decided that our events we host from now on will align with these 8 Education Goals. For the next 2017-2018 school year, 100% of the proceeds from the events we host will go towards local charities that match one of our Education Goals. To do this, each month we will focus on a different goal by providing UBC students and Vancouverites with up-to-date events and opportunities to give back. All of this will be shared in publications on our website, our social media pages, as well as through our new monthly email campaign. These publications will include what we are doing as an organization currently, as well as other ways to be philanthropic locally. Our goal is for both the database and the monthly email campaign to also be transmitted to our other Generocksity cities in the future.
Philanthropy is something we believe anyone can be involved with. We know that many students usually do not have the means to give financially, but still want to give back. We hope that this Education ReLaunch will provide those seeking to give back, and inspire those who aren’t, with the resources and opportunities to do so within their means. Philanthropy is for everyone and Generocksity aims to Change The Way We Give.
